Matthew Sanger has fulfilled his term limit for the NLA Board and will be stepping down. Janet Joy and Peter Ursel have chosen to run again. Their profiles appear below.
We are nominating Harvey Cornish to fill the empty spot on the Board.
Respectfully submitted,
Kathleen Kidd, Chair
My grandfather, Harvey Lightbourne, began coming to Nares before the First World War and we’ve had our island here for over a hundred years. I worked overseas in Austria and Bermuda as a teacher for my career, coming to Nares every summer, until I retired in June 2024. Since then, my wife Carey and I have lived most of the last 14 months here at the cottage and plan to continue doing that for as long as we are able. In June of this year, we did the First Aid and CPR course with the other Bayfield-Nares First Responders and have since been helping Rob LeBlond with Nares Inlet emergencies.
I have always appreciated the terrific work done for us by the NLA Board volunteers and would look forward to contributing in any way I can.
Since the beginning of NLA in 2016, I’ve supported our association in various ways– especially working to ensure broad communication through building the website and leading numerous surveys to consult with members on major decisions.
As NLA Secretary, I implemented a software system to consolidate our administrative tools – including communications, document management, meetings, collaborative tools, and the new website.
My goals while serving on the board would continue to include enhancing communications, consulting with members; and increasing the efficiency of our organizational processes and reducing the administrative workload, thereby increasing the sustainability of our organization.
I've been coming to Nares Inlet since childhood, and it remains my favourite place in the world. I enjoy spending time at my cottage and working on the property.
After touring the lodge a few years ago, I felt inspired to contribute and joined the board, where I've served for the past two years. I’ve especially enjoyed being part of the Future Planning Committee, where I’ve had the opportunity to share ideas and help shape the direction of Nares.
I'm excited about the work ahead to improve the facilities at Nares Landing and ensure this special place continues to thrive.
